You need to watch the tide charts while on this river trip. We did not, and went out in the calm, glass like waters of low tide, it was a wonderful, lazy ride, beautiful scenery, we ambled out for 1.5 hours, took pictures, watched the fiddlecrabs, birds, boats, and nice houses.
But, on the way back, we caught the current going the wrong way and a very strong ocean breeze. We had to paddle so hard for about an hour. I got blisters on my hands because I didn't think I needed my gloves.
I would recommend this trip, it is a really nice river with birds, fiddlecrabs, and peaceful trees and rock formations. We paddled for 3 hours.
Porta potti at boat launch, lots of parking too, but HUGE pot holes in the driveway in.
Route 1, to Neck Rd, follow the signs for the boat launch on Circle Beach Road in Madison.
Read the tide charts! Try and get with the tide both ways.
