Trip Overview

Duck River, Unionville, TN: Halls Mill Road to Hopkins Bridge Road

Had a great trip down the Duck today. Temperature was 60-65 degrees, USGS river gauge 0359800 reported 330 discharge and 3.45 gauge height.

We paddled a section north of Shelbyville, TN about 5 miles. We put-in at the corner of Halls Mill and Wheel Roads and paddled to the bridge at Hopkins Bridge Road. We were the only ones on the river and the surroundings were beautiful.

While most of the rivers in middle Tennessee are very low (less than 1" rainfall in the last two weeks), this section of the the Duck was flowing well and we never had to get out of the boats and drag through shallow areas. Huge trees, limestone bluffs, blue herons, ducks, hawks, and a covey of about 30 turkeys flying across the river kept us amused as we made our way down.

Trip took about 4 hours paddling easy. Great new find that we'll paddle again
