Trip Overview

Cowan's Gap State Park is a very nice paddling location for those of us just starting out in kayaking and canoeing. It consists of a 42 acre lake centered in a state park that offers great flat water paddling as well as fishing, swimming, picnicing, hiking and biking areas and more. When my family takes a day trip there, we usually pack the portable grills and coolers and set up a 'day camp' right next to the water's edge where we can picnic and relax at picnic tables and hop in the kayaks for a leisurely stroll on the lake. No power boats are allowed, only trolling motors so it's nice and quiet.

Accommodations:

Handicap access, picnic tables with grills, boat launch ramps, rest rooms, swimming, row and paddle boat rentals, camping with hookups, hiking trails, etc.
