Trip Overview

Both parks had kayak launches with clear instructions making the entrance and exit from the river easy for these 2 beginner kayakers. This is a beautiful section of the Cass River. The current is slow but steady, passing by mostly low banks of trees and a few houses closer to the Davis Park section. We did pass under I 75 in the first part. There were only a few shallow areas but we found them easily navigated. We sighted herons, ducks, and turtles along the way and besides the wild life had the river to ourselves. There was a small log jam just upriver of Davis Park but with patience and persistence we were able to scoot across one of the submerged trees. The banks of the river at this point did not allow for portage so if you are planning a trip in this section be aware that you might have to turn back. Paddling upstream is doable. Total time on the water was about 1 hour and 45 minutes of slow paddling.

Conditions

Log jam above Davis Park launch point
