Buffumville Lake in Massachusetts

Trip Overview

Went here for the first time on a holiday weekend. Waited until late in the day (5:00p.m.), to allow for people to leave. It was not very crowded. Only about 20 boats on the lake. About as many kayaks and canoes as there were power boats.

This is a very kayak/canoe friendly lake. 10mph limit for power boats. No jet ski, water ski, or tubing permitted. Most of the boats are serious fisherman. Most use electric motors, and go slow to not scare off the fish.

Scenery was nice and mostly undisturbed. You cannot see any houses from the lake. Just one dam that spills into the lake. Small fish breaking water all around. Lots of bird wildlife. A heron flew just a foot above the water, and came right across my bow. Some surface vegetation on the lake. But mostly only along the shallow edges. Did not make paddling difficult.

Fees:

No fee to use the boat launch.
