Trip Overview

Brazos River - between Hwy 16 and Hwy 4

Paddled the 20-mile stretch of the Brazos between hwy 16 and hwy 4. Rochelle's canoe rental took excellent care of us. We do this trip twice a year for 5 years and always use her service.

We launched just below Possum Kingdom dam at the HWY 16 bridge (nice concrete launch). Flow was great since Brazos River Authority opened the 3rd gate; fishing was fantastic. We caught several bass, carp, crappie and cats. Scenery was breath taking with the high cliff walls, water was clear. Beware of the game wardens!!

Accommodations:

All primitive but plenty of sand bar camping.

Outfitting:

12 ft sit in kayak, 12 foot sit on top kayak, and canoes

Directions:

take hwy 4 out of Minerals Wells and drive 7 miles north to Rochelles canoe rental.
