Trip Overview

We went in spring so water was high and swift only had to portage 1 time. If water was low it would have been a problem

We started at the merge of the Shanago river and Mohoning and ended in Eastvale due to dam. There were a few nice islands along the way. In good weather and normal river cond. you could run in a long day, but half the fun is camping.

Lower part of river has rr tracks on both sides. Our second night we were right beside the track; it wasn't too bad only runs ever 4-5 hrs (sshhh I got a flat penny now first time ever)

Watch out for the pipe by the power plant; it's easy to see and avoid... and there was a mild rapid by bridge in high water... our canoes were loaded so we didn't risk it - water was still ice cold!

Accommodations:

mostly nothing...

They did put a boat launch in Wampum, PA but haven't gone to it yet

Outfitting:

2 kayaks 2 canoes

Directions:

Rt 18 runs right along side the river.
