Trip Overview

My wife and I headed out to Falls Lake for or first outing on our Kayaks! As we entered the gate area the gate keeper suggested Beaver Dam Lake which is about a mile north on Hwy 50 (Creedmore Rd.). She said no motor boats allowed (just what we needed to hear, after seeing the boat traffic on Falls Lake). So off we go! A fee of $6 to enter the area, plenty of parking, 2 ramps for unloading and loading.

As we unloaded we met a couple who were also new to kayaking, they shared their experiances so far. We had a few laughs and were off on our first outing! We headed into the wind (which was light) and was the opposite direction from the dam that connects to Falls Lake.

We were amazed at how beautiful it was, no motor boats! We saw many large birds, turtles and a few fish jumping. While on the lake we might have seen 8 to 10 other people kayaking only two that came into talking distance.

We paddled up to where the bridge crosses over the lake(Old Weaver Rd.)and hung out in the shade for just a few minutes. We headed back and made a swim stop, there are plenty of places to stop and stretch or cool off. Back in the kayaks we headed toward the boat ramp it was VERY hot that day so we made one more swim stop and then made our last trek to the loading area.

The lake was beautiful we think we found a little piece of Heaven on earth. Everyone we encounterd was very nice and seemed to be after the same thing we were, PEACE! We estimated we paddled about 3 miles in 95+ temps and we had a blast! We cant wait to get back out there next weekend, hope we meet on the water!
