Bayou Lafourche in Louisiana

Trip Overview

It is an easy trip on Bayou Lafourche. I launched at the Lockport Boat Launch where many fishing boats can launch along with canoes for free. The people on the bayou are friendly and courteous. The wildlife I saw were birds, fish jumping in the water, and alligators. Alligators don't normally bother boaters nor swimmers. I have lived on the bayou for 12 years and have never heard of a gator attack even though I am involved with the local volunteer fire department and rescue team.

Accommodations:

Facilities are nice. It is easy to launch and it is free. There is a walking path there too if any one is interested in walking. There are no restroom facilities at the boat launch at this time but restrooms can be found at local stores and restaurants.

Directions:

From New Orleans, come south on Hwy 90 until you reach La.1, about 30 miles. Take the Lockport exit on La. 1. Then go South about 10 miles. At Lockport, one can see the bayou and the boat launch.
