Trip OverviewAt the last minute I decided to take the pirogue/sneak boat for a paddle. Arrived at launch at 10:20 AM. There were two school buses parked at the launch with about 40 kids. I was disappointed at first but enjoyed seeing the excitement of the kids on their field trip into the wild. I got out ahead of them and did some fishing. No luck on bass.
The bayou is quiet and has many cypress trees. The trees were beautiful with fresh lime green leaves. There are several trees in the bayou to fish and paddle around. I let the kids go by me and settled down to a nice paddle. I saw several alligators from 4 to 8 feet long. Two osprey nests, several turtles basking, and two water snakes. As you get down the bayou closer to lake Ponchatrain there is grass in the water and more gators. The water is very clear. I continued fishing but only saw gar.
I arrived at the end of the bayou at the lake. The kids were swimming and having a great time. I went off to the right / west and fished in the grass beds. No luck. Water is very nice and excellent fishing area at the right time of year. An Osprey nailed a fish and flew back into the direction of its nest. It was a nice get away and I recommend the trip. Round trip was about 3 hours.
