Bayou Cane in Louisiana

Trip Overview

A couple of friend and I went kayaking on Bayou Cane after Hurricane Katrina. There were many large trees that had fallen into the bayou, but it was possible to get around them because some dedicated paddlers from the Bayou Haystackers Paddling Club had cleared a path the weekend before our trip utilizing chain saws and other tools. It was sad to see so many fallen trees; however, we made it to Lake Ponchatrain. I was pleased to spot many fish. I even saw a curious dolphin that swam beside my boat. It was good to see life again in the area.

Accommodations:

Go to Mandeville.
