Bayou Barbary in Louisiana

A self-supported trip created by seejanebird

Trip Overview

Also known as Pete's Landing, this pretty little bayou opens up into the Amite River. The launch is nice with a concrete ramp and wooden pier. There is a $5 fee that you insert into an honor box.

If the water is up, you can go north under hwy 444 and explore the narrow bayou. I came across a very surprised family of otters here once. Going south, you can turn left at the split to explore the other end of Bayou Barbary. It's narrow and shady. However, there is a large tree across the bayou just after the bridge, so you can't get too far. If you turn right at the split you will be going out on the Amite River proper and may have to compete with motor boats which is never fun.

Accommodations:

There is a tiny snack shop at the launch (not always open) and a bathroom close to the launch site - not great, but better than a port-o-let...

Fees:

$5 launch fee - honor box

Directions:

From I-12, exit at the Frost exit number 22. Head south on hwy 63. Turn left (east) on hwy 44 and go until you see the sign for Pete's Landing on the right.

Launches:

There is a large parking area, concrete ramps and wooden pier. Lots of fishing boats launch here.
