Number of Portages:
We encountered very gusty winds on the 3rd day that almost flipped my wife's kayak and tossed our Jack Russell, Lucy out of her basket. We noticed another kayak trying to paddle against the wind and was going nowhere. They beached it until the wind died down in about 20 min.
Bring a tent with a mosquito netting roof. We have a Northface Rock 3. Sleeping under the stars is always a bonus at Lake Powell.
Lightweight camping chairs are a must. If you do not bring any, getting comfortable during down times is pretty difficult.
Also bring your own shade as there were none in all of the spots we camped. If you can find a spot inside a canyon, that would be a good alternative. It also provides more protection against the weather should it turn.
Hot... Even though this was early September, the daytime highs were still in the upper 90s with evening lows in the upper 70s.
