The Yasawa group is a chain of 16 volcanic islands located north-west of Fiji's main island, Viti Levu. The Yasawas are sparsely populated and although there are numerous resorts, there are no shops, roads, cars or banks. Locals live in small villages and their income comes from farming, fishing and tourism. The islands are mainly hilly with a relative dry climate with the trade winds blowing typically between May and November.
