Stonehaven

North Sea

Description

Go to the south side of the harbour wall to “botany bay”, going in the harbour is not permitted. A local SUP school is located here, and this bay is perfect for newbies and those practicing paddling specific skills. The beach is a mix of sand and shingle with a wide slipway to the waters edge. The bay is wide and high cliffs behind the beach disguise novices from the wind which once offshore can sometimes catch paddlers out. South are several wide beaches, coves and caves, as well as the always spectacular Dunnottar Castle. Which can also provide a good launch site if you don’t mind the walk from the car park. North is the cliffs beneath the local golf course and the start of the highland fault line running from here across the country to Helensburgh. This coast is home to seals, dolphins and many seabirds and on a clear morning beautiful sunrises.
