Morris Creek put in

Morris Creek - Charles City, US

Description

This is a very basic canoe or kayak put in. There is a parking lot and a short trail down to the creek, where the put in is located. It's about five feet wide and slopes into the water. Cider blocks have been embedded in the dirt or mud to prevent slips. From this spot you can go downstream toward the Chickahominy River, but not upstream.

About 200 yards downstream from the put in is a large downed tree that crosses the entire creek. At high tide I was able to get my canoe under it by lying flat on the bottom. I don't know if a kayak could get under it, since it's hard to lie down in a most kayaks. Many canoes will not get under at high tide, I suspect.

You could probably portage around if needed. The creek is narrow here, but after about a half mile it widens out and is lovely. I saw three bald eagles on my recent paddle adventure.
