Mason Neck

Lorfax Heights, US

Description

Mason Neck State Park is next to a national wildlife refuge. There is a fee. (residents of local counties can enter and launch at Pohick Regional Park about a mile away)

Mason Neck has a car too launch. Drop off your vessel in the lot where there is a decent staging area, rental fleet, and beach for launching. Then take your car up to the lot and walk back down about 0.1 miles. There are restrooms between lot and launch.

Once in the water, go left across the bat to Sandy Point where the motorboats anchor in shallow water for light partying. Pull into the beach for a swim. It is shallow and sandy. If you go right from the launch, you go to the creek, which is natural and more secluded. It gets weedy in the height of summer.

Mason Neck is renowned as a bald eagle nesting area. Look up, and you will see them dueling with each other or osprey.
