Sign marks Ramp 48 on the west side of Hwy 12. Sand parking area along road, 4wheel exist to the launch site .1 miles is available by beach permit. Cart recommended. You can travel the shore shallows and see plenty or get away from the road noise and paddle WNW 2.3 miles to Gull Island a bird sanctuary. Young flightless pelicans can be seen in the season, along with ibis and egrets. Approx. 200 yards from the SW corner of the island is a narrow sandbar extending to the south approx 1/2 mile. Walking the kayak along the sandbar can be great fun if you have a bowline. If the winds are right great place to lay around or picnic. Returning across the shallows to the launch site crabs, fish, rays and occasional turtle may be spotted. Recommend have a GPS and marking waypoints, from a 1 mile out all the sandy beaches along the shoreline look the same.
