- Great River Connequot River West Shore Launch
Description
There are two locations to launch on the west bank of the Connequot River. Both are on River Road. The first is the Town of Islip ramp. If using a trailer you need a town issued permit. The other location is at the end of River Road by the entrance to Timberpoint Golf Course, There is a dirt road about 100 yards to the river. Access is free. Both locations close at dusk and the gates may get locked. No bathrooms or food in these locations.
Paddling the Connequot offers some very interesting views and if you paddle across to the east bank there are some canals to explore. The water is generally very flat especially in the morning. In the afternoon the wind builds from the southwest and can be strong. If you headed north in the river and it is very windy you can stay along the east bank which is generally more protected. If you go south on the river it opens to Great South Bay. The bay can get very rough especially when the wind picks up.
