Description
This is a really great area to paddle board and kayak. This area (Northeast shore) at Coyote Ridge has amazing huge rock formations coming up out of the lake creating several inlets and narrows between the rocks that are fun to navigate. In this general vicinity is also Bird Island and Deer Island. You can't go on the islands but paddling around them is enjoyable, especially for bird watching. Haven't seen deer on deer island but supposedly locals have.
You can also launch from the Marina, further West, but that makes for a little bit longer trip and it's easier to just start out from Coyote Ridge if you can get parking. Further East of Coyote Ridge where the rock formations are is the dam and it's worth a paddle over to it just to see what an engineering marvel it is. Built in 1932, it is a 147' gravity arch dam stairstep carved out of 11 Mile Canyon rock sides to help support the weight. 300,000 sacks of cement were used to make 50,000 cubic feet of concrete to build the dam.
