Coldwater Lake

Description

Everyone agrees this is a stunning place to visit! Lovely paddle until the afternoon when the winds kicked up as mentioned in other reviews here. Made it a little too choppy for our recreational kayaks. We turned around after a couple miles and hugged the coast on the way back. Then closer to Kim Island, a crazy flying ant infestation descended on the lake. The whole surface was covered and they were landing all over us. Not sure if it was because it was very smoky from wildfires or if it happens often, but I'd definitely make this a morning adventure if this happens a lot there. No other reviews mentioned it, so not sure how we got so lucky! Ha! It was fine when we started but it was about 3:30pm when we ran into the ants. There was a food truck up at Johnston observatory and more free bathrooms. National Park pass or $8 to see rest of the building there.
