Clopper Lake

Gaithersburg, US

Description

This is a terrific location for a couple of easy hours of paddling. There are plenty of turtles, Great Blue Herons and other wildlife. The launching ramp is non-concrete so it won't cause severe boat scratches. Rentals are available so if you bring friends who don't own kayaks, they can rent them. The whole park is beautiful, with lots of shaded picnic locations and walking trails including one which circles the lake.
Bonus-- at the end of the lake furthest from the dam is a double road underpass. On the other side is the Long Draught Branch, which feeds Clopper Lake. Depending on seasonal depth, you can have a nice twisty paddle which feels quite jungle.
