Description

Site of Lock 17 of the Rideau Canal! Burritts Rapids is the oldest community on the Rideau River. Dock at the lock and explore the historic village; a walking tour is available on the North Grenville tourism website (https://www.northgrenville.ca/things-to-do/history-heritage/historical-walking-tours/burritts-rapids). Check out the Tip to Tip trail, enjoy a BBQ with the barbecues available on site, or watch the locks in motion from one of the many picnic benches.

Paddle your way downstream to the east until you find where the river intersects with Kemptville Creek. Take a right and paddle upstream to the south to find Downtown Kemptville, where you can dock at Rotary Park near the bridge. You can wander into the town for lunch, visit the library for some nice air conditioning, or visit one of the many stores in the area. Recommendations to visit include Salamanders pub, Hyde Smokehouse, the library (as mentioned), the Book Market, and more.
