Only recommended in early April (or late fall) before the mosquitoes emerge. This is a good paddling launch if you are camping in the nearby Mattaponi primitive campsites, which are a pleasant walk (but a long portage).
Drive the short distance from the campsites to the river for the soft launch. Superb paddling from here along the weird cypresses of the Pocomoke River to Shad Landing, especially if you take the canoe trail detour (south up one fork of the creek, then east down another fork of the creek to Shad Landing Marina). We saw beavers, eagles, dozens of turtles sunning themselves, even in early April while still cool.
We also saw a gray fox at night while camping at the Mattaponi campsites.
