Bayou Manchac Park

Bayou Manchac

Description

Along the tree line there is a clearing, behind the two baseball fields. When you get to the clearing follow the trail to the right. You will see an old water fountain and the place to launch. It is a narrow, primitive launch about 150 yards from the nearest parking.

If you go to the left on the bayou you head towards the Amite River (about 7 miles). To the right goes to Ward Creek (a little under a mile). Good fishing in Ward Creek. There are a few alligators, but big fish though. If you keep going straight goes to Bayou Fountain (2.5 miles) and on to Alligator Bayou (3 miles; Manchac Bayou dead ends where Alligator Bayou starts, but you cannot paddle into Alligator Bayou without getting out and crossing the road).
