Bayou Barbary

Bayou Barbary - Livingston, US

Description

Easy access, concrete boat ramp. $5.00 fee to launch (self-serve pay station). Plenty of parking, bathrooms (not the cleanest, but not worse than most campground bathrooms). From the launch area, you can go south to the Amite River, or up the "north fork" of the bayou. Nice, easy, quiet paddle. Going towards the river, there will be a bit of boat traffic accessing the river, but not a lot (unless you get there early on a Saturday morning).

Bayou Barbary is probably the most scenic, cleanest bayou I've paddled in this area - in a five mile stretch, over two hours, we probably saw two plastic bottles and one beer can. I'm sure they are around, but we did not see any alligators, and very few turtles.
