Description
Public boat ramp at 9 Mile and Jefferson in St. Clair Shores. Free for kayaks and $10 for motorized boats. Parking lot is gated with an attendant. Gate is always up during operating hours, but still, feels secure and safe. You can drive directly up to the ramp, unload, then drive back to the parking lot to park your vehicle. Walk from parking lot to ramp is about a 5min walk but easy if you unload your gear at the ramp. Five handicapped parking spaces right at the water as well. Lots of people fishing off the grass peninsula in this area and some tracking kayaks as well. A decent amount of boat traffic so try to aim for weekdays and be off the water by 11am. I don't go if the winds are over 10mph because the lake gets choppy. Easy-medium kayak south on the Lake St. Clair Water Trail to Grosse Pointe Woods Lakefront Park's no-wake area, Eleanor and Edsel Ford House inlet, and Grosse Pointe Shores. Saw some turtles on a log at the Ford house , a water snake in the water, ducks, geese , and a heron near the boat ramp. Be out by their closing time (8pm I think) or you will get gated in for US border security purposes.
