69 Bridge

Blackwater River - Jasper, US

Description

If traveling north on AL 69, turn left on a paved roadway that dead-ends into parking area for the access point (about 1/4 of a mile). Parking for cars/trucks on left side and space for one to two trailers on the right.
A steep but stable gravel path down to Blackwater Creek (~200 ft from parking). No kayak or canoe slide.

This run has numerous small, easy shoals alternating with flat water sections. Mostly hills and low bluffs. As you progress downstream, all of the shoals are easy, but, most of the shallows have small rocks that require some maneuvering (especially at lower water levels). The shoreline is mostly hilly or low banks with sporadic bluffs. At mile 2.2, there is a huge rock formation that is a great stopping point for lunch. At about mile 3, there is a stream with a beautiful waterfall when water is running, typically after a rain. At Mile 4.2, there are rocks in the creek about 3 feet high that can be trouble at higher water levels. At about mile 7.4, you will see the foundation that used to be a dam and mill. There are several other stone and bridge formation before County Rd 22. After you pass under County Rd 22, Blackwater Creek merges with the Mulberry Fork of the Black Warrior River. Turn right to reach Lynn’s Park take out, approx. 1 mile downstream. Pass under the HWY 78 bridge and Lynn’s Park will be located immediately on the right.

The distance to next access point (miles rounded to the tenth) Lynn’s Park is 8.8 miles.
