I bought my Clipper Prospector 17’ in a Kevlar Duraflex layup in 2009. I optioned it with tractor seats, Black aluminum trim pkg. and gunnel covers. This was my first canoe and I could not be happier with this boat. At 68lbs the Duraflex layup is not light but for a 17’ tripping canoe it’s weight is pretty easy to live with. This canoe paddles quite well on open Lakes/ tracks decently and handles really well on rivers. I have had it loaded 1’ above the gunnels with camping equipment and 2 adults/ 2 kids on board and this thing handled a river trip like a dream. I also took it through some class III whitewater with an inexperienced paddler up front and the design of this canoe made that trip so much better than I had expected; handling 5’ standing waves with ease. The Clipper Prospector 17’ is absolutely fantastic and is well worth the $2700 I paid for it. Thank you Marlin and co. !
