Wish I bought this sooner!

I've been paddling about 10 years now. First kayaks were the Hobie Tandem Mirages. They worked fine, but we found the bottom draft needs could not be met- as we like shallower water at times. Plus, they are heavy.
Then we got typical recreation kayaks in my current floatilla (Old Town Loon 13.6, Necky Manitou 13', Pungo 12, etc.). They all paddle fine, but are getting heavier every year it seemed. We are in our mid-50's in good shape, and bring 2 wherever we go... and determined that we needed something lighter.
I did not get a chance to try all kinds of ultralight boats, but somehow I stumbled across Slipstream Watercraft on the internet. Long story short, we ended up buying an Impulse and a SportDuo. These guys are very easy to work with, and very knowledgeable.
After finally getting a chance to take them out this spring, I love everything about it. Being a canoe, the body is open to bringing all kinds of gear/coolers/etc for day trips or paddle camping. It's also easier getting in and out of the boat for the same reason. They track straight, with enough primary stability to make it feel secure, yet easy to turn with a slight lean if you please. It is easy to paddle since it is like paddling a kayak, but --- can be as technical or traditional as you desire with various seat options.
Did I say the best part? Besides being reasonably priced... They are ultralight!! This means that for portages in paddle camping, I can put this easy 23lbs on my shoulders (actually I rest the seat on my head - so light!). The Sport Duo model weighs in only a few pounds more. I have the kevlar models... a bit more bulletproof. I can load and unload the boat by myself while my honey watches (or make some ice tea). Lol.
As I get older, I'm getting smarter! I'm glad I switched over from my 65lb kayaks to my 23lb canoe. Soooo glad I did. Just wish I did this sooner!
