Rick makes a fine paddle. I have two of his beaver tails and they are fine sturdy ash paddles that require no babying and minimum upkeep. I use these hard and I am not paranoid about damaging them since I got them both for well under $100! Tremendous value and nicely crafted. I requested a semi custom paddle with a slightly different blade profile that his standard otter tail ... no problem! I really like the Maine guide grip on it . It really lends itself to rolling the paddle for underwater recovery using the Indian hunting stroke. Rick selected a really nice piece of ash for this paddle the grain on the blade is patterned like a nice fish fillet. So if you want to get a nice piece of ash call Dri-Ki ! ;-)
