I bought this item because it cost less than the Yakima gunwale brackets, what a mistake. They are about 10 times bigger than the gunwale brackets and make it difficult to get the canoe on and off the rack. They do hold the canoe securely, they are just difficult to use. I would not recommend these.

What a great idea! None of my vehicles have loops on the frame to tie my canoe bow and stern lines to when carrying my canoe on the roof rack. These provided the perfect solution. Remove two bolts from the top of the radiator, and bolt these on... a perfect place to tie off those lines.

The only reason I did not give them a 10 is that they dry-rotted after about 2 years. Cheap enough to replace, but they were not exposed to sunlight so why did they fail?

This is the uninsulated version of BA's air core line. I bought the mummy version. It adds more padding than your typical self-inflating pad with slightly less weight. Add to this an inflation system...it takes a lot of air to inflate after a long day on the water. As a bonus... it doubles a float if you want to take an afternoon swim!
