Wow, did I ever need a Kayak bilge pump! I knew my Jackson Riviera (sit-on-top) didn't have scupper holes, but only when I went out on a lake full of speedboats and jet skis, then saw even more waves from the wind picking up, did I face Just How Seriously I needed a bilge pump.
I did some research and went with the Shoreline Marine Kayak Pump with Float/Bag, which I found on Amazon for under $18. Yes, the price was a big reason I bought it. But now that I have it, I couldn't be happier.
I love how compact it is. I love its bright red color. I love that it comes with its own hose attachment (I have a wide kayak) and its own net bag and an attached float. But when I tested it a little while ago, what I most liked was that it all-but-emptied a large tub of water in one pump!
I also very much like that the handle is not enclosed. The pump a fellow kayaker loaned me, before I got my own, was either the Seattle Sport or NRS brand. Both of those have enclosed loops as handles, and while I'm sure there's a logical reason, my fingers felt cramped as I pumped the lake back out of my kayak.
This is the first "10" review I've given as relates to my new kayaking obsession. I'm that pleased.
