While no kayak is perfect,…

While no kayak is perfect, the Pescador 12.0 is the best recreational kayak for the money. I purchased mine about two years ago, and I've been quite pleased. At 12" it tracks fairly straight and moves through the water well without feeling sluggish or too heavy. It is extremely stable and therefore suitable for those that are interested in fishing or simply new to the sport. The seat is supportive. The adjustable foot pegs work great. There is abundant room for storing your dry bag and other items for day touring. And, the paddle park is a nice touch. The Pescador 12.0 is an all-rounder that exhibits great value, performing as well as many kayaks costing twice as much. If you are looking for a reasonably priced sit-on-top, this boat should definitely be on your list.

Love It

Submitted by: doggymcnuggets on 5/29/2017

Picked up the Perception Pescador Angler on sale for $399 and love it. Wanted something stable and easy to handle that my wife & kids will enjoy on the lake, but that I would also enjoy for fishing. This was just what I was looking for. It's super stable (you'd either have to try to tip it on purpose or take it in some pretty significant ocean chop to ever worry about going overboard), tracks really well, and is reasonably quick. I'm 6'2" and 215 lbs and this yak is a pleasure to use.
The construction is bomber, with quality components throughout. It's light enough for me to carry it and load/unload it on my car solo without much grief (approximately 60 lbs I think). I love the 4 carry handles - one on each end and one on each side - that make it easy to carry with one set of hands or two. Hatch covers fit tight, and I really like the small one in the seat where I can keep my phone & keys.
Possible cons: you'll ride wet unless you put plugs in the scupper holes and stay on calm water. That's the nature of the beast with sit on tops. Also, at 6'2" there isn't a lot of extra leg room left with the foot pegs set to their farthest positions. Especially taller paddlers might want to see how it feels before committing.
Overall, I love it. Easy enough to paddle for just about any user, stable, straight driving, and fast enough. Great yak at a reasonable price that will last for a long time.

Big improvement over a 10 ft model

Submitted by: paddler309734 on 2/18/2017

I had/ have a Tarpon 100 and love it but it's slow & tracks like a short boat. the Pescador 12 is the same as the older Tarpon 120 , (call to the mfger assured me.) This boat is way faster, tracks fantastic, and is built to take abuse. I'm on Big river Big Rocks water, and couldn't ask for more. Still small enough to stuff in my 6 ft truck box and go. Plenty of room for gear or the Dog. I fly fish for Carp out of it, so need a stable platform, this meets all requirements. Never go wrong on this purchase.

I have paddled my fishing buddies several times on lakes to fly fish. Not very fast, but very stable. Plenty of room for equipment and your catch. This boat is heavy for it's size, so it is nice to have help if loading and unloading from a car top. Boat gets lots of use and has held up well.

So far so good... The boat is reasonably stable and responsive for the size and type it is. The seat is very comfortable and the overall layout suites my purposes. I did notice that water comes right to the top of the scupper holes, something I want to check out a little closer. One thing I am not crazy about are the rod holders-they are behind the seat, molded in and somewhat shallow. I would recommend securing anything you put in them. I have only been out a few times and will update later in the season. For comparison, I am 5'-10", 190 lbs. I also own a 2015 Vibe Sea Ghost which I feel is a bit more solid and heavier. I was able to get the Pescador 12 Angler on sale for $725 at REI otherwise I would have looked closer at the 2016 Vibe Sea Ghost.

purchased a Perception Pescador sport in 2012 to use on local shallow rivers and lakes, big chance from my Wilderness System 16 footer.. like the way it tracks, turns quick and is fairly stable, purchased a Pescador 12 Angler this year and same boat as the Sport, but rigged for fishing.. Have had good experiences with both of them, but the fish count hasn't gone up.

This kayak is a good kayak to fish from. I like the side handles in the middle for loading. It takes on a little more water from the scupper holes because i am a large man 6 ft 1 in 270 lbs. I have to put in scupper plugs otherwise it handles great. Great for fishing.

Love, love this kayak! Sold…

Submitted by: Plink on 8/25/2015
Love, love this kayak! Sold my Caster 12.5 to look for another model that was better suited for touring with a group of people. Was looking for a nice light boat with a skeg to help with tracking in the heavy tidal currents that we usually paddle, but didn't want to pay $1,000. I was skeptical when I found this kayak, but am so delighted after taking it out a few times.

The bottom is designed in such a way that it tracks wonderfully and I can finally keep up with the crowd without fighting for it. I can finally have that relaxed paddle I have been hoping for. The boat is very sturdy and the seat is comfortable. Love the deck in the back which is big enough to take the dog or a large cooler. Of the Perception Montour 11, Caster 12.5 and this Pescador 12, this one is by far my favorite for day touring!
