My wife and I wanted to find…

My wife and I wanted to find a kayak that would stand upright in our garage, and also be very stable on the water. Being new to kayaking, the wide and roomy cockpit of the stoker, as well as the stable feel were great for us. Since they would stand upright in our garage, access to the kayaks there was a big plus. So far, they have surpassed our expectations for a reasonably priced, small and stable kayak.

The Stoker is nearly…

The Stoker is nearly identical to the Old Town Otter. In the early days of the Otter, they made two models...a standard and a deluxe. The standard had up to 15% recycled plastic, no footbraces, and no deck shock-cord rigging. The deluxe was virgin plastic and had the foot braces and deck rigging. The Stoker is the "deluxe" version of the Otter, but now sold under the OT Sport name and it comes in some very vibrant colors.

My wife has the Stoker and being new to the water only a couple of years ago, is very happy with it. She used a friends Otter several times, which was her biggest deciding factor. Another factor was the fact that she can take this size kayak, fold down the seats in our minivan, and put the kayak inside and go. She is short, so this is a great advantage to her. She uses the boat recreationally in local flat water rivers, lakes and ponds. We also have a Loon 111 which she wants to try this summer. These boats (Stokers and Otters) are light and very tough. A perfect boat for the recreational user, kids, and beginners.
