These stoves are bullet-proof. A bunch of scouts over the years haven't been able to kill them. If they do malfunction they are easily rebuilt. Definitely consider this stove if you are looking.

The MSR Whisperlite Stove is very light weight and takes up very little room. It is well built, sturdy and it is easy to connect fuel bottles and use.

This stove is great. It is lightweight and compact so it doesn't take up much room and doesn't add hardly any weight to the gear needed for a kayak trip. It operates very efficiently using very little fuel.

Pretty hard to go wrong with this stove as it has been a pack light standard for a long time.

Pros:
Light weight
Multiple fuel bottle sizes
Works great
Heat times are fast
Pretty bullet proof

Cons:
More complicated than a canister stove
Stability on softer surfaces isn't very good

Overall this is my favorite of all the backpacking stoves I have trialed. If prefer to use a stove that is refillable, the whisperlite is a solid choice.

I have few things to say about this little guy-- overall, it gets the job done. I've taken it on a few leave-no-trace camping trips, and I've been impressed by it's ability each time (especially since it is so small.) Overall, good buy. I definitely recommend it.

I have used 2 Whisperlites for years on back country trips. The are light, compact and functional. Like any stove, in the wind the stove needs protection. It sets up easily with wide feet at the base for stability as most often I am cooking in the sand or uneven terrain. It easily packs in my cook kit and never has given me problems.

I wouldn't trade this for anything. I also took one of these on a 4 day hike of the AT and in the pouring rain it was marvelous. Hot quick meals, cools quickly for quick turnaround meals and off again!
