When heading out on an extended canoe trek I usually take a large canoe pack and a food barrel, but it's always a good idea to have a smaller pack around for day hikes, plus it makes it easier to access those often used items like sunscreen, cameras, bug nets etc. I recently found the Mountain Hardwear Scrambler 30 backpack with OutDry technology and decided to give it a try. This bag came with a tag attached claiming to be 100% waterproof. After a few months of using this pack I can say it is in fact waterproof. It is however, not submersible as the 'lid' is only secured with a simple latch hook, but in a heavy rain, or with water splashing into the boat everything inside this pack stayed dry.
