Brand new to kayaking but my new Hobie Compass is fantastic! MirageDrive 180 is effortless to use and works really well in shallow water, even at 12” deep! Should have done this much sooner.

Little disappointed. I have used Hobie for years including Outback, PA12, Oasis, ect.... The Compass is made cheap. I guess Hobie was trying to get a boat that would compete with lower prices but they failed.

I love this protect. It is light enough that even at 75 I can still load it on top of my truck. It paddles very well and also peddles well. I've already caught a 4 lb bass from it.

Fantastic kayak! So very fast crazy stable quick and responsive turning. Love love love it! I can stand easily and plan on some upgrades such as a square hatch and moving the round hatch to the front. Can't say enough about how much I love it!

This kayak has performed everything I wanted. It paddles well and even peddles better. I've used it several times to fish and it helped me catch fish.

The mirage is mine, as i am 71 I thought I needed the peddles but as easy as the compass is for me with the peddles the quest is just as easy without. They both glide with ease across the water and tracking is great. I had a sail boat in the past and kayaking has taken the place of that boat. No need for sails with the hobie kayak!

The compass is a simpler budget Hobie design. It has a more roomy open layout which I like. It's stable and has decent speed and it's quiet through the water. The seat is not nearly as good as it's other CT designs but is a bit wider for larger people. It did not have long enough reclining straps so my dealer made an extender kit. The rudder design also is ok but does not work as smoothly as hobie's other twist and stow design. I really like and prefer their other kayaks for just a bit more money- you get a better design and features-the difference is worth it. The Revo, Outback or PA are better options if you can afford a bit more. I had buyers remorse and traded up for a different model and I'm much happier.

I had considered this kayak for my fishing adventures. I spend a day on the water fishing from it. So here goes.. For a hobie, this is a pretty light weight boat. I currently have the outback and the compass is much lighter, eaiser to launch, haul etc. The rudder on the compass is extremely responsive, turns on a dime and I actually like the placement of the control. It is very stable, great platform for standing, its easy to paddle when necessary. The cons.. The seat! The bar on the backside of bottom of seat is quite uncomfortable and unless you scoot forward or sit slouched, you are resting on that bar. ( my guy says he likes it because he does sit farther forward on the seat) Also this boat has no side handles, there are some molded hand holds in the boat between the seat but i imagine if you had very big hands its a tight squeeze. The other thing I struggled with was the distance from seat to pedals. I had to adjust them all teh way forward and really stretch to get a decent pedal. Mind you im short, but something to consider if you are vertically challenged such as myself. All in all I would say its an excellent boat especially for an angler looking for a cleaner, simpler deck/platform. I suggest testing first for those comfort/size issues though.

This is a great kayak for the right person ! My choice was between the Revolution 13 and the Compass, my priorities were stability, ease of getting up onto roof of SUV with no help, and fishability. After test paddle of both, I chose the Compass even though I fell in love with the Revolution, because the Compass was extremely stable, in fact stable enough to stand up and fish although I rarely do that. I am in my 70's and weigh over 200, so the stability issue was key to my decision to buy the Compass. I did negotiate to upgrade to the 180 drive so I have the reverse option, great for fishing and getting out of Mangroves, and I will soon be adding the larger fins to improve performance, as I found the Compass much slower than the Revolution. Getting the Compass up on top of my SUV by myself took a little imagination, I load it stern first so that the under boat rudder does not get damaged, that seems to work quite well. I am also adding a few inexpensive handles to make the job of getting the boat on top of the SUV easier. Both kayaks are winners, but I opted for the extra stability of the Compass over the performance of the Revolution.

So much better than the Pescador Pilot. Cuts through the water great with the mirage drive, and is incredibly stable when I site cast. Best value of any pedal kayak on the market.
