I purchased my first Scout…

Submitted by: paddler770680 on 5/4/2020
I purchased my first Scout Kelly Kettle from Canadian Outdoor Equipment a few years ago and have since purchased several more for my business and as gifts. I use a Kelly Kettle extensively throughout the paddling season on all my trips, it heats water faster than most other stoves. The whistle cork was a welcome addition and works great. The only 2 improvements I would like to see in the design is a heavier chain attaching the cork and a thicker bottom on the firebox. I would recommend setting it up on a rock base as the bottom gets very hot. Overall this is probably one of my favourite canoe tripping items and I would highly recommend it. Canadian Outdoor Equipment is always excellent to deal with and ships out promptly.

I researched stick stoves…

Submitted by: sweetfancymoses on 8/27/2014
I researched stick stoves before I decided on the Kelly Kettle Scout in stainless steel. After experiencing several failures with my white gas stoves, I decided to go native and give a stick stove a chance. I'm very happy after one trip with the stove. It boils water very quickly and that's all I use it for. (I opted not to buy the accessory that allows a pot on top of the chimney). Using the North County's rocket fuel, birch bark, I had no problems lighting the stove. The chimney effect draws in enough oxygen for a blazing fire in seconds. Only downside: it is bulky, even in the smaller 'Scout' size.
