I recently purchase two of…

I recently purchase two of the double version of the Kayak Condo XL to hold four kayaks. These racks appear to be the second generation of the Talic kayak condo, redesigned to hold wider recreational kayaks. I had been wanting wall storage for the kayaks for a long time but didn't want to spend a fortune for a metal rack. I also didn't have space in the garage for a floor rack. The Kayak Condo XL filled the bill exactly. The birch wood used makes the racks look gorgeous on the wall! The bottom condo unit was set up for 14 ft kayaks. I set the upper rack was set for 12 foot kayaks and to miss my circuit breaker box. The kayak in the uppermost bunk is an older Hurricane Santee 100 which will eventually be sold. This 10 ft kayak has a width of over 30 inches, which is a bit wide for the brackets (being on a rack configured for 12 feet boats added to the problem). But it's the lightest one I have and easy to lift to the top. I also figured out too late that had I mounted a 2x4 between the bracket and the wall, I would have had more clearance. I really appreciated how well the Kayak Condo XL was designed. The other kayaks fit like a glove, and I love how the straps reduce stress on the hull. To give you an idea of width, one kayak is a Perception Sport Pescador 12 Angler Kayak, with a factory spec width of 32.5 inches. On the rack properly configured for 12 foot kayaks, it sits flat on the strap supports, with no problem. Remember that you control the rack configuration when you install the units. Talic does provide spacing guidance in their well written instructions. I liked how Talic selected fasteners so that I only had to dig a 7/16 wrench and socket from the tool box. So much better than having to use a fist full of wrenches! Installation was simple and straightforward. I took less than 2 hours from start to finish, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist. Best of all, by getting the kayaks off their sides on the garage floor, I now have space for the jet ski when it is on the trailer. I would definitely recommend this product!
