Beautiful design but not great quality for price

I surfed short boards for years and a buddy got me into paddle boarding in May 2017. I got major SUP fever and had to have my own board. I bought the 10'6" Flood Classic in July 2017. I've taken it out 12 times in 3 weeks.

The good: It paddles well. I've been on boards from 8 different manufacturers, and The Flood is my favorite. The double hull construction definitely makes a difference. It's super stable and handled well while paddling against the wind and in a rip current (true story). Also, surprisingly easy to catch some longboard action on the waves thanks to the rocker.

More good: Aesthetically, it's utter eye candy with all the features and options that whispers sweet adventure to its owner. It's the sexiest board I've owned - the supermodel in my collection.

The bad: Unfortunately, just like a supermodel, it's more fragile than it looks and lacks shine in person. Right out of the shipping crate I was surprised the board wasn't protected with a gloss coat or at least a polished hot coat. This left the board super porous. Now I get the need to reduce the whole skin-friction-drag, but it's so porous that simply gripping my board with clean hands leaves handprints all over the rails. The cosmetic issues don't end there. After two uses, the BOTE logo on the rails is rubbing off, the wood inlays seem to be drying out, and it dings like a DeLorean. The smallest bump on my SUV car rack or tap on the rack in my house leaves a permanent scuff or ding.

Since it seems to be the most fragile (and most expensive) of all the boards I've ever owned, I am worried about how long my Flood Classic will last. If not for its fragility, I would have given it 5 stars instead of 2.5. I want to give it a 5. I really do, but for all the board's beauty and bells and whistles, it needs to be tougher and able to withstand normal handling.

Overall I was thoroughly...

Overall I was thoroughly disappointed in the 12'6 Flood board and in Bote. I retuned the board, and got my $1,600 dollars back, after I used it twice and it got dinged from normal usage. The board was poorly constructed, and would create pressure dings on its rails/top and bottom decks from me simply picking it up! In a board sock too! The board was beautiful, but very poorly constructed. I returned it after the board got a crack in it from my foot hitting it too hard, while surfing. Total joke. I highly suggest buying a Cruiser SUP board, look them up. I bought a Kona Durashield and I love it; lighter, stronger, and more versatile than any piece of crap Bote board. Pros It would have been good for fishing and surfing if the board didn't get dinged like an egg shell cracking. Cons Inexcusably low durability on a $1,600 board. It is heavier and less versatile compared to other SUP boards (I recommend the Kona Durashiled from Cruiser SUP if you want a comparable board to the Bote). The customer service was also crap, and made me fend for myself on the return, wouldn't recognize their board shapers have an elementary level of workmanship and quality. Usage Surfing, touring, fishing

I have both the 12' flood...

I have both the 12' flood and 10'6 flood. I prefer the stability and nice glide of the 12' and is long enough to safely strap my cooler and fishing gear and i can still lay on the board when i want to just enjoy the sunshine. The 10'6 is a great board with 3 fins which u can remive if u prefer one. Its light enough to lift and is my go to when i am ready to paddle without all my gear. Pros Great all around board. Stable, wide, light, handle, integrated cup holder, place to strap gear for straps, bungees INCLUDED on front and back of boards, epoxy...superior board! Cons Nothing Usage Exercise, fishing, leisure, dancing😎

I love this recreational...

I love this recreational board. The only downside is it becomes weighted down easily if I try to strap gear or a cooler to it to assist for longer trips. It certainly helps to have a current! Pros Super stable Cons Weighed down easily. I'm only 120 lbs so you'd think I could easily glide with extra gear, but, no. Usage Excersize. Recreational pursuits. Floating springs and lkazy rivers

Have the 12' Flood Native...

Have the 12' Flood Native .Really enjoy the board. Using on the flooded lakes in North Texas. Plan to take it home to Florida gulf area in near future. HEAVY THOUGH! Pros Stable, good flotation with my dogs, easy to paddle. Cons Adv weight on various web sites is 30-31 lbs. Actual is 37-38 lbs. May not seem like a big deal until you are lifting on and off your vehicle. Im over 60 so it matters to me. Usage LAKE TOURING, SMALL SURF

This is a very nice SUP...

This is a very nice SUP and it was great going into the waves, very stable. Fishing of this was a breeze and I did not have any trouble with balance. Pros Stability and performance Cons Nothing yet Usage Fishing

This is an amazing board!...

This is an amazing board! loved from beginning when I put it In the water. Board is real stable in any type of condition, chop or when its flat. Ive used a few of the bote products before and Ive always had good results with them. Pros Color and look, performance Cons Nothing Usage touring

Great beginner board but...

Great beginner board but out grew if after 6 months and was ready for something lighter and faster. Also, had an issue with paint chipping and pealing. Pros Good stable board. Cons Heavy. Was too slow to race even in the surf class. Usage Exercise and racing.

bought this board for my 4...

bought this board for my 4 kids at Christmas 2012 and after 2 times out the tail end started flaking and the shell seemed really soft and spongy in some spots. My foot actually caused the bamboo looking area under the elastic strap to cave in Pros Only used twice but manageable size and different look Cons Seems defective in that the exterior is flaking off and cracks easily - we have had tons of surf boards as we live at the jersey shore so we understand that these things can be fragile and need to be handled with care but this paddle board seems defective it should not be cracking and caving in on the top where you are standing - really weird Usage lake and ocean
