This is my second review of…

This is my second review of my Clipper Prospector. This trip I took the boat down rocky river from confluence of long creek and took out at plank rd. bridge. had lots of class 1 and lite class 2 rapids, several ledges. boat did excellent, no trouble. Like I said in my first review, the boat comes to life in moving water, pick a line and go for it. I did bash one rock but factory skid plate did job. no nicks, dings just very light surface scratches from sliding over rocks. this boat is a lot tuffer than I realized. only carried cooler and one dry bag so i cannot comment on load bearing capacity. will keep updating

This is my first review of my 14ft solo prospector, Kevlar duraflex hull with extra skid plate in front/rear, boat was ordered with gelcoat, factory rivet d-rings to black anodized trim and gunnel protectors, standard ash wood web seat, factory thigh pads. Its maiden voyage was down the Little River in Richmond county, North Carolina.

This was my first solo boat ordered straight from clippers plant in b.c. first impression was this thing is so nimble! every canoe stroke moved the boat(it will make me a better paddler). To me the boat has off the chart secondary stability, with good initial feel. After an hour I was comfortable. The boat doesn't come to life until moving water. We had very little rapids but what we did have made the boat more stable than flat water sections(to me). At the end we all paddled across the confluence of the peedee river and back, the boat did great. I will keep updating, it may be another month.

This is a very stable solo, initial and secondary stability and rough water handling are excellent: The load bearing capacity is perfect for a week at least of gear. The downside - with the aluminum gunnels and thwarts it resonates like (or worse than) aluminum in an inadvertent paddle bump, or hurried pry. Also not looking forward to the aluminum carry handles and gunnels when the cold weather arrives. But these can be tweaked with some pipe insulation. A large kneeling pad (half a sleeping pad of closed-cell) has helped dampen the noise. At about 215# for me alone, it is just fine. But still miss my royalite Mohawk.

This lightweight boat was outfitted with Perception saddle for multi-day tripping. It is surprising quick with a 5-day load of camping gear and is a dry ride in Class 2 and the occasional Class 3. It handles the upstream afternoon winds well, It does require caution as the material will crack with a direct hit. I'm very satisfied with the performance.
