I have been living in Alaska for 40 years. About about 30 years ago I bought a used double ended 20 foot Grumman for $450. The 19 ft. square sterns were popular for the big rivers because you could take out a full-size moose in one. At the time a brand new 19 footer was $1200-$1500. Used ones held their value at $800-$1200. I wanted the square stern but the price was right on this one so I grabbed it. I’ve used it on rivers and creeks in Alaska for all these years. It’s been kind of ugly with multiple coats of paint and flaking and so on from previous owners. So I finally decided to strip all the paint and get it nice and shiny. I found an old registration under a couple layers of paint that expired in July 1968. So the canoe is over 52 years old. Rivets are all still tight etc. I used to be able to put it on top of the cab over camper alone but those days are over.
